Websites for Sporting Clubs

Belong to a sporting club?

Many community sporting clubs don’t have useful and functional websites and this is something I’d love to change. Not enough clubs understand the importance that a website plays in their club’s identity.

Imagine this scenario: a potential parent is deciding between two junior sporting clubs. They head to the website of both clubs. One club has an easy to navigate, up to date site with relevant information required such club policies (required for compliance), registrations, a list of teams, contact details of coaches and team managers for each team, match reports for each game, upcoming events, a merchandise shop, an easy to use contact page…and the list goes on. The other club has a website built years ago with old, out of date information (I’ve seen this too many times). Which club is the parent going to choose? And this translates across all sports: football, netball, cricket, soccer, rugby, rugby league…

Think of it as a capital investment and claim the cost of the website over time!

Case Study

The junior committee of the Hampton Rovers Football Club decided what was needed was a website dedicated solely to the ever expanding junior component of the club. When I was commissioned to build a brand new site, my research revealed a deficiency of even half-decent websites.

The home page is easy to navigate with striking images to engage the user

Along with social media (Facebook and Instagram), the engagement of the parents and kids has been immeasurable. The website is easy to navigate, content is updated regularly throughout the season, each team has its own page with fixtures and match reports and it’s a one stop shop for everything to do with the football club.

The home page displays the latest weekly reports from the Football Manager and Junior President

Here’s what the Vice President of the juniors had to say:

Feedback from the Hampton Rovers’ community has been very positive. Many have commented on how easy it is to find the information that they want on our website. I attribute that to Lisa’s vision and ability to maintain discipline on us as the website came to life. It can’t be easy working with a Committee, but Lisa has taken on all the opinions, sifted out the crazy and delivered a great integrated communications suite for our footy club community. Thanks Lisa!

The success of a sporting club requires many facets to come together.  One area I can help you with is the all important digital side. Think of that capital investment! Perhaps contact your local council to secure a grant.

What your club will pay

Without a clear idea of your club’s requirements, it’s tricky to estimate how much it will cost. There are two ways to approach the website build and what comes after:

  1. Website build (using WordPress) and I train someone from within the club in its use and maintenance. This is the ideal scenario as it’s always preferable for someone who knows and loves the club updating the site. In the event this isn’t possible, then…
  2. Website build and an hourly rate to maintain it. This may be appeal to some clubs as volunteers can be hard to come by.

If your club requires an updated website, ring me for a chat on 0409 952 071 or get in touch via my contact page.
